Although a medical patient may not expect guaranteed results, he or she does deserve to be fully informed of the risks and rationale behind proposed treatment plans. Unnecessary testing, treatments or prescriptions may pose health risks, in addition to failing to address a patient's underlying symptoms or condition.
Unfortunately, one California doctor may have breached this duty of care. California regulatory board officials have accused the neurosurgeon, formerly employed at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California, of administering unnecessary procedures to patients undergoing spinal surgeries. Instead of fighting the allegations, the neurosurgeon surrendered his state medical license. It is unclear whether he will continue to practice in Michigan, where he is also licensed.
If a patient's medical condition fails to improve or actually worsens, a consultation with an attorney that focuses on medical malpractice may be in order. An attorney that focuses on this area of law may be adept at issue spotting potential signs of medical negligence and evaluating whether a breach in professional standards contributed to a patient's injuries or worsened condition.

Significantly, a patient that suspects that he or she did not receive proper care or that a doctor was negligent should not delay in consulting with a medical malpractice attorney.
